Concentrate

Condensed writing inspired by JG Ballard/William Burroughs/Jorge Luis Borges. Butterworth's 'Concentrate' stories—collaborations with JG Ballard who had 'condensed' them à la William Burroughs from longer Butterworth manuscripts—had appeared in New Worlds. The concept was expanded as a separate publication of 'condensed writings'. Optimistically, a fortnightly frequency was planned, under the sui generis imprint Mwangaza Enterprises (Swahili for 'Dawn'). Only one issue appeared. Some copies sold through shops, some privately, but most had to be distributed free as a ' A new kind of fiction publication' with New Worlds # 185 and Ambit magazine. Served me right.
