Weird Fantasy 1

The editorial lists Michael Moorcock, Mervyn Peake, HP Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Alan Garner, Henry Treece, William Hope Hodgson and David Lindsay—and can be seen as a blueprint for the start of Savoy six years later. As the Millennium turns, Savoy commences publishing Hodgson and Lindsay. It has taken 30 years to achieve, but Savoy has published all nearly all these people!

The high spot of Weird Fantasy #1 is the first printing of Ken Reid's banned Dare-A-Day Davy 'Frankenstein' strip. Too gruesome for its intended publication in the Odham's Press comic, Wham!, the strip arrived on the editors' desk courtesy of Steve Moore (then an editor for IPC Magazines). We've reproduced this delightful piece of grotesquery for your delectation in the Pictures section.
