| Lying like an island offshore from our independent magazines and
Savoy itself are these three editions of Charles Partington's Something Else. An independent publisher in the 1970s and ''80s and Britton's
partner for the first Savoy publication (Stormbringer), Partington shared a taste for the fantastic and eclectic, as
can be seen in the heady contents of his magazines.
Now a professional writer, Charles has sold short stories to a number of diverse markets, including Arkham House and New Worlds, and is most lately enjoying success as the creator of the dashing sea-faring captain, Jack Gallant, whose latest adventures can be found in the collections Sword and Honour and Hearts of Oak, both published in 2000 by Robinson's and edited by Mike Ashley. The premier issue of SE features an Elric centrepiece from Michael Moorcock and James Cawthorn, fiction from Brian Aldiss and M John Harrison (an extract from A Storm of Wings) and one of Charles' best stories, Nosferatu's Ape.
