Bognor Regis

Weird Fantasy under a new name; there were no issues 1 or 2. The high spot is James Cawthorn's Lord of the Rings: Portfolio #2. Portfolio #1 had appeared in 1961 in Triode magazine, the first published illustrations of Tolkien's 'Rings' other than Tolkien's own. Cawthorn's portfolios are executed in stencil, a difficult medium, in which he excels. Two of the pictures reproduced, 'Light in Edoras' and 'Against the Deeping Wall', are among the finest in his long career.

The rare interview with local writer Alan Garner is one of Garner's best, dwelling in-depth on the personal inner conflicts which drove the English author's works of fantasy.

Bognor Regis is a resort town on the south coast of England.

Cover: Frank Zappa by David Britton.
